the Sacred breath journey…
Ancient Light Breathwork is an intentional and trauma-informed modality designed to guide individuals into expanded states of awareness through the profound intelligence of the breath. The technique involves a connected, circular breathing pattern using only nose inhales, beginning with a deep belly breath followed by expansion into the chest, and completed with a full, open-mouthed exhale, like a sigh of deep release and unwinding.
Each breathwork journey begins with a grounding arrival. We take time to become present, introduce the breath technique through discussion, demonstration, and preparatory movement or exercises. This initial phase is essential, allowing the nervous system to settle and the body to feel safe enough to open to the work ahead.
As the session progresses, we gradually build the pace and depth of the breath. This steady activation helps shift the brain into altered states of consciousness, including theta, delta, and occasionally gamma brainwaves. These lower-frequency states are naturally dominant in early childhood, particularly from birth to around age seven, when the subconscious mind is most open and impressionable. During this period, core beliefs, emotional patterns, and perceptions of reality are deeply imprinted. By re-entering these brainwave states through conscious breath, we access a window of neuroplasticity that allows for the gentle rewriting of limiting patterns and the integration of new, life-affirming perspectives.
Simultaneously, this style of breathwork stimulates the vagus nerve and activates the parasympathetic nervous system, inviting the body into a deep sense of safety, calm, and receptivity. The combination of brainwave entrainment and nervous system regulation creates an ideal inner landscape for transformational healing.
This gentle yet powerful combination of theta brainwaves and parasympathetic activation allows the breather to safely access and explore repressed emotions, stagnant energy, and unresolved trauma. In this deeply receptive state, the body may spontaneously guide itself through movement, sound, or emotional expression into a cathartic release. This peak moment, often marked by profound emotional purging, is a sacred recalibration of body and soul. It is here that grief may transform into joy, trauma into forgiveness, confusion into clarity. And often, clarity arrives not with weight, but with levity, sometimes even a cosmic giggle.
The body, in its infinite intelligence, knows how to release. When we surrender to authentic, uninhibited expression, we make space for life force energy to flow freely once again.
As the journey nears completion, we begin to gently taper the breath, returning to a natural rhythm. We close with a period of stillness and rest, savasana, where the integration of insights and energy shifts begins. This sacred pause is where the nervous system recalibrates, the spirit anchors, and the transformation begins to take root.

FAQs
Can I do breathwork with asthma?
While I believe that the body is a self-healing organism and that breathwork is a powerful medicine to catalyze physical healing, Ancient light breathwork embodies safety in all ways. please review our contraindications list to see if your condition is listed and whether you are eligible for gentle/modified or regular breathwork journeying. You will be required to view the contraindications list prior to signing up for journeying.
How does this breathwork differ from other breathwork?
Ancient light breathwork believes that breathwork should be a healing somatic practice. most methods create a high, stimulant-like, aggressive experience that does not allow a breather to connect with their body safely this perpetuating dissociative behaviors. Rather than practicing self love by gently connecting to the body before entering a profound experience, the results may be traumatic.
additionally, ancient light breathwork attends to all parts of the breather’s experience from arrival to departure. the journey is held in a sterile container of safety where the breather can be immersed in their process in deep trust and integrity.
what should I bring to my breathwork journey?
Most importantly, bring your most intentional self. If you arrive frazzled, you won’t even begin to think of the items that could support your journey because you’ve lost track of yourself and your purpose in this. Once you have yourself taken care of in preparation for your journey, the items list is easy and some items are more optional:
-loose/comfortable clothing (loose around the waste pants. ladies, braless or loose bra is recommended)
-water bottle (non-glass please)
-journal (not required but recommended)
-altar items (not required but recommended)
What method does Ancient Light Breathwork use?
Ancient light breathwork uses a safe, holistic, therepeutic method of breathwork that is facilitated in a ceremonial and deeply intentional way by bringing consciousness to all phases of a breathwork journey. logisically, the breath is a nose-only inhale, mouth exhale. The breather practices unlocking the diaphragm by breathing deeply into the belly and the chest and repeats this rhythm for the entirety of their guided journey.
We recommend the book “Breath” by James Nestor which offers a deep dive on the benefits and consequences of of nose vs mouth breathing.
